2017 Power of the Purse
The 12th annual Power of the Purse will be held Thursday, March 23 at 6:30 p.m. at The Bleckley Station. The event is a live and silent purse auction hosted by the Women’s Leadership Council of The United Way of Anderson County to benefit teen pregnancy prevention efforts. The cost to attend is $35 per person.
The auction features purses from designers such as Kate Spade, Coach, Tory Burch, Brahmin and more. Additionally, the purses are combined into packages which include massages, gift certificates to restaurants, jewelry and much more.
The live auction boasts items including a week-long stay in Charleston, a mystery dinner with a “mystery” purse and other exciting items.
The success of this event has been invaluable to funding the teen pregnancy prevention programs in Anderson County School Districts Three and Four. Today, there is a teen pregnancy prevention program in all five of the Anderson County public school districts.
With the assistance of the efforts led by the United Way of Anderson County, the teen birth rate which peaked in 1991 has dropped 55 percent in teens ages 15-19 years old.
This year, all bids on items will be done electronically at the event. You can bid even if you are unable to attend. However, you must create an account and purchase a ticket to bid. A smart phone app will offer a simple and fun way to bid on all items. You can purchase your ticket and register for the auction at http://bidpal.net/uwpop. For more information, call 864-226-3438.
